The organisational structure of the KGB was complicated (central and peripheral divisions, a lot of personnel carrying out different functions). For an institution to function in a normal way laws, orders, directives, rules, financial and other plans, reports regulating the activities of the personnel were necessary. These documents reveal how the activity of this organisation was organised and how it functioned in reality.
