The Seventh Department consisted of two branches, which were engaged in surveillance and identification of people whom the KGB was investigating. They helped to locate their places of residence, and also shadowed foreigners on their arrival in Lithuania. They also guarded heads of government and the party. To this end, a group of eight operative agents was formed. The heads of the department controlled the branches of other towns and the Seventh Departments of the Lithuanian KGB. In the city of Klaipėda, seamen from capitalist countries were shadowed. The KGB Seventh Departments used safe houses and were equipped with the necessary radio and photography equipment.
